Arthropods associated with pig carrion in two vegetation profiles of Cerrado in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil Rev. Bras. entomol.

Forensic Entomology research has been concentrated in only a few localities of the "Cerrado" vegetation, the Brazilian Savannah. The present study had, as its objective, an examination of the diversity of arthropod fauna associated with the carcasses of Sus scrofa (Linnaeus) in this biome. The study was conducted during the dry and humid periods in two Cerrado vegetation profiles of the State of Minas Gerais. The decaying process was slower and greater quantities of arthropods were collected during the dry period. Insects represented 99% of 161,116 arthropods collected. Distribution pattern of herbivorous insects in a remnant of Brazilian Atlantic Forest Neotropical Entomology

In this study we selected three habitats that correspond to a light gradient, and consequently a proportion of pioneer plant species gradient edges, trails and forest core and described their herbivorous insect assemblage. We tested five hypothesis about the herbivorous assemblage: (1) there is a different distribution of abundance and richness of order between habitats, (2) species similarity between habitats is smaller than within habitat, (3) in forest edge the herbivores are more abundant than in trails and interior of the forest, (4) in nuclear areas herbivore richness and diversity are higher than in the trails and edge, and (5) the abundance and richness of herbivores are different between seasons. Insects associated with tropical foliage produced in the coffee growing region of Colombia Rev. Bras. entomol.

We conducted a survey of insects and pest management practices on 34 farms growing ornamental tropical foliage plants in the central coffee region of Colombia over two years. Tropical foliage provided habitat for a diverse range of insects. In total, phytophagous or detritivorous insects from six orders, 40 families and 62 genera were collected. The most common were Hemiptera (29 genera from 16 families), followed by Coleoptera (17 genera from 4 families), Diptera (5 genera from 5 families), Lepidoptera (5 genera from 4 families), Hymenoptera (3 genera from 2 families) and Orthoptera (2 genera from 2 families).
